Now & Then: Sonia Delaunay

Thursday, March 10, 2011

If Sonia Delaunay were still alive, she'd be wearing Hermes' Fall 2011 Collection.
Sonia Delaunay was an artist who was most widely recognized as one of the co-founders of the Orphism art movement (the use of bold color and geometric pattern within art). Besides painting she also worked in stage and textile design and was the first living woman to have a retrospecitve exhibition at the Louvre in 1964.  Many of the Fall 2011 collections have taken a page out of Sonia Delaunay's book using bold colors, and geometric patterns. This look from Hermes looks right up Miss Delaunay's alley.  Thanks to to Seesaw for the inspiration. 1. You're so right she would wear that collection. It was made for women like her.

  2. Such a cool comparison. I can see that collection on her even back then.

P.S. I'm hosting a really fun giveaway, so if you get a chance pop by and take a peek:)

  3. The Delauany photo definitely looks like something Jeanne J. would wear!

  4. If you're in NYC there's a great Delaunay show opening at the Cooper Hewitt

  5. I absolutely LOVE the Now and Then series. What a great group of gals. So clever and perfectly paired. Keep em' coming!
