I may have cheated a little bit on May's cake. I used Duncan Hines yellow cake mix- which in my opinion is the best yellow cake I've ever had. I know people are probably gasping- but it's true (if you have a yellow cake recipe that can rival it- send it to me and I'll try it out). Anyway strawberry short cake is one of my all time favorites- sooooo good.

I hate to admit it, but you may be right on the yellow cake front. The only thing that worries me about boxed products is all of the additional things they pack into em! But I must confess I have reached for a boxed cake on occassion. Phew, I feel better now that I got that out there!
ReplyDeletei just found your blog and i think i'm in looove with everything you post! strawberry short cake is my favorite too, i'll have to try that yellow cake mix xx
ReplyDeleteGosh that looks divine. I am just learning how to bake and I'm not the best in the world but I'm getting there. Don't think I could attempt that cake just yet though!
ReplyDeleteMy god, this looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteyou guys- this cake was soooooo easy! you have to give it a try. puree some strawberries, add a little sugar, whip some cream and you're done.
ReplyDeletemariah, what does puree mean? haha u know i am not kidding when i ask that. yikes.
ReplyDeletepuree= to blend (like in a blender) so that it becomes smooth
ReplyDeletesometimes out of the box is just what you need! i have a rum cake recipe that uses mostly boxed ingredients and it's soo good!
ReplyDeleteyum! and much agreed about duncan hines cake mix. good call.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, I have yet to find a from-scratch recipe that rivals the Duncan Hines yellow cake mix. Strawberry shortcake is a favorite of mine, as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you on the Duncan Hines thing! My grandmother (who was sort of Martha Stewart-y before there was Martha Stewart) almost exclusively used Duncan Hines boxed cakes. But she always made homemade icing from scratch.
