March's Cake

Thursday, April 7, 2011

Yes, I realize it's April. But ever since the whole pregnancy thing happened I've been a bit off my game. So here is March's cake. After February's disaster I decided to do a little research on cake decorating, specifically tips on frosting cakes, and I'm pretty pleased with the result. I used fresh flowers from my local flower market to decorate the top- wild tulips, dahlias and not sure what the last one is? I used this cake recipe but wished it was a bit lighter and fluffier- the taste was nice though. And while the icing went on nicely and covered well, I did not like the taste so I won't bother sharing that recipe. I'm in need of a fail proof cake recipe- let me know if you've got one- preferably chocolate or yellow cake. Also a good icing recipe- something that tastes good and covers well. I know a few of you have also started baking a cake a month- I'd love to hear how it's going! And I promise to share April's cake in April.

  5. OK Ma1iah, will you please decorate the top of my cake with flowers on Sept. 4th? We're doing funfetti cupcakes for guests in honor of Jon, and will have a small cake for he and I to cut. I'll just have it iced with no decorating and let you do the flowers on top. Jeez this one looks beautiful. The March cake (in April) was worth the wait.

  15. This cake looks so pretty. I always wait for your monthly cake debuts. I've always used the chocolate cake and chocolate icing recipe on the back of the Hershey's Cocoa box. It's a no fail.

    How's your day?

  19. my friend alison recently had a "cake week" where she baked something new every day (sorta like the cake a month...). Her finale cake on the seventh day was this amazing tree trunk cake! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=106536089439943&set=a.106534212773464.12091.102989833127902&type=1&theater
