January's Cake

Thursday, January 13, 2011

I was pretty pleased with myself for making this cake the other night. I'd like to get better at making cakes; specifically decorating them. So I've decided that for 2011 I'm going to make a cake a month. One year, twelve different cakes- all hopefully better than the last. So here's January's cake. It's pretty simple but (hopefully) it's only going to get better from here- stick around.

  15. thanks for all the nice comments about my cake! to answer some questions: it's chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, the flowers are real, from my garden, and not icing, and i used ina garten's chocolate buttercream cake recipe which you can find here:

  43. pretty! such a great idea! my sister just bought me the "all cakes considered" book where melissa (from npr) made a cake a week for a year. I was thinking about attempting something like this, but your idea is much more realistic. I think I will join you on your cake quest, if you don't mind! :)
