If Simone de Beauvoir were still alive, she'd be wearing Rachel Comey's Spring 2011 Collection.
I've been wondering what famous woman in history would wear my favorite designer's clothing...turns out it's French writer, philosopher, and feminist, Simone de Beauvoir. A free thinking lady of her time, Simone came of age in Paris during the 1920's and 30's. Wrapped up in all things academic, social and political, Simone was almost as famous for her personal life as she was for her professional one. Rachel Comey's laid back, city bohemian vibe suits Simone's aesthetic well- keeping things loose and free just like Simone herself. Thanks to Catherine from wolf eyebrows for the suggestion and if you'd like to see the rest of the Now and Then Gang go here.

Mariah! these are so good-fun-smart, and I love the outfit you picked for Simone de B. - wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love this!! Simone de Beauvoir was such a revolutionary woman of her time, and so incredibly intelligent and free-spirited. How interesting to think of what those in history might have worn had they been alive today - it's a question I've never thought of (but will start pondering from now on!). I've always loved her story with Jean Paul Sartre, too. One of the most fascinating couples in history.
ReplyDeleteOoh, this post makes me happy :)
it's literally perfect.
ReplyDeletei just love your then and now posts!
ReplyDeleteSimone de Beauvoir was such an interesting woman + Rachel Comey's collection is such a great choice for her.
ReplyDeleteThis is an intriguing analogy, and one which we will bring to the attention of our image clinic at ManhattanMakeovers.com especially because we are big Sartre and de Beauvoir fans.
