May's Cake

I may have cheated a little bit on May's cake. I used Duncan Hines yellow cake mix- which in my opinion is the best yellow cake I've ever had. I know people are probably gasping- but it's true (if you have a yellow cake recipe that can rival it- send it to me and I'll try it out). Anyway strawberry short cake is one of my all time favorites- sooooo good.

Man, I keep coming across the best look books! I love this concept, styling and collection from Indonesian brand, Nikicio (designed by Nina Karina Nikicio). The whole "I don't give a s***" attitude combined with the effortlessness vibe, but not really, because it looks too good to be effortless, is really working for me. Raise your hand if you want to go to Indonesia...and wear Nina's clothes...and look this good doing it. Okay, me too.

And keeping it going with the "outdoorsy" theme... I wouldn't mind heading to San Francisco to take a look at this exhibition by Kevin Cyr, going on at 941 Geary

We still don't know if it's a boy or girl, but I've been thinking a lot about how I want to decorate the nursery. If it's a boy I'm going to have to make a couple of changes but this is what I'm thinking for now...

lamp, print, rabbit, rug, shoes, teepee, sticker decal, moses basket, pillow

April's Cake

Finally posting April's cake...  This time I used my mom's chocolate cake recipe which turned out great. I also used a bunt pan to get the fun shape and topped it off with a home made ornament that I made out of chopsticks and leftover ribbon. I don't think the pictures do it justice- in person it was super cute.

David Gomez

Barcelona is one of my all time favorite cities. It's full of life and creativity. So when I saw the work of photographer and illustrator, David Gomez, I was not surprised to learn that he's from there. Gomez is inspired by ingenious tribes and mythical cultures as well as fashion (his father was a shoe designer). He merges the two in his work, often taking portraits and then turning them into his own tribal masterpiece.

And now Gomez has launched a t-shirt line of his "tribal portraits." Check out these images from his look book and purchase a t-shirt here.

I saw Maggie Harrsen on Backyard Bill and followed the link to her photographs where I was pleasantly surprised by what awaited me. I love how simple and pure they are. And I love the light in each of them. Aren't they wonderful? To see larger images, you can view her portfolio here.

A Vintage Bike Auction!

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

I'm pretty psyched about this vintage bike auction I'm going to tonight at {field office}. What could be better than music, bikes, coffee, drinks that are not coffee (none for me and the babe of course) and friends? If you live in Cape Town make sure to stop by, and put on your dancing shoes before you leave the house too.  Two, yes two DJ's will be playing after the auction is over. See you thereeeeee!

Now & Then: The Unsinkable Molly Brown

If Molly Brown were still alive, she'd be wearing Christian Dior's Fall 2011 Collection
More commonly known as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," Molly was one of the survivors of the Titanic.  A big personality, she was most widely recognized as a socialite, activist and philanthropist, but her first passion was the theatre and acting. Her clothing matches the personality behind it- everything she wore seemed a bit grand and over the top and who's a better fit for that than Christian Dior? To see the rest of the "Now and Then Gang" go here

Other People's Homes...

One day I'd like to have my home photographed for a magazine. Until that day comes, I'll just continue to stare at other people's homes who have been.

I'm Back!

I guess technically I didn't really go anywhere- I was just away from my blog and the internet for a while dealing with real life things like being pregnant- which turns out is harder than I thought. But now I'm starting to feel more like myself again- hooray! And now I owe you lots of things like a couple of cakes, a "Now and Then" post and some other treats, so stick around.

As for these lovely ladies, they are by the Paper Twins and you can find more of their work here. Stay Gold friends (and thanks for hanging in there with me!).
