Lately...

I've been feeling a little under the weather. But at least the reason is happy- I'm pregnant! Andrew and I just found out a couple of weeks ago. It was not planned but he is ecstatic and I'm equal parts excited and scared.  The babe is due in November and if anyone has any advice on how to make it through the first trimester I'd love to hear. Right now food makes me sick, but so does not eating. Fruit and smoothies have been saving my life. Any cooked food turns me off.  Anyway- this will not turn into a baby blog but if you'd like, please feel free to follow my "For The New Babe" board on my Pinterest.

DIY Oregon Cabin

Genrally speaking I believe there are two types of people, beach vacation people, and mountain vacation people. I'm a beach vacation person, however this little mountain getaway looks pretty perfect. Ryan and Mariah designed and built the cabin themselves for only $10,000. How clever of them.

Good News, Bad News

The good news is that two of my favorite people, one Miss Shelley Harris, and one Miss Sandra Y. Ting are coming to visit me! All the way from Brooklyn, New York and Richmond, Virginia respectively. The bad news is that I think having a blog is making me greedy. Here are more things that I spied on the internet and now I want...

I love these two murals that went up the other week down the road from us. Boa Mistura are the two artists from Madrid responsible for this beautiful work. Check out the WOA blog to follow their progress during their stay in Cape Town. Geez people are talented.

The Perfect Bag?

My birthday isn't for another six months, but if there is a mother or a husband reading out there... this bag would be a great option. It's for sale at Barney's New York.

Overexposed and Expired

Have you ever shot on expired film? The images that come back are always so dreamy- same with overexposed shots. Top right and bottom right images were both shot on expired polaroid film. The first picture of Cannon Beach is overexposed and I'm not sure what's going on with the one below that but it's amazing.

Beautiful jewelry by Sophie Monet. I especially love her rings- but this necklace is also a favorite.

Happy Friday! I think I'm going to hit up some thrift stores this weekend and see if I can find myself a longer length dress or skirt since I've had zero luck finding one in any stores around town. And you- any fun weekend plans?

Now & Then: Sonia Delaunay

If Sonia Delaunay were still alive, she'd be wearing Hermes' Fall 2011 Collection.
Photobucket
Sonia Delaunay was an artist who was most widely recognized as one of the co-founders of the Orphism art movement (the use of bold color and geometric pattern within art). Besides painting she also worked in stage and textile design and was the first living woman to have a retrospecitve exhibition at the Louvre in 1964.  Many of the Fall 2011 collections have taken a page out of Sonia Delaunay's book using bold colors, and geometric patterns. This look from Hermes looks right up Miss Delaunay's alley.  Thanks to to Seesaw for the inspiration. If you have any recommendations for a "Now and Then Girl" leave a comment and if you'd like to see the rest of the "Now and Then Gang" go here

David Maisel

Would you believe I didn't take a single picture of the wedding on Saturday? I was too busy running around, setting up, organizing, and sending the bride down the aisle to even think about pictures. Looks like we'll all have to wait for the photographers pictures. But I promise it will be worth the wait- it was beautiful and everything fell into place. I can't wait to share it with you all.

In the meantime I'm mesmorized by the photography of of David Maisel. He shoots aerial images of environmentally impacted areas. The pictures below are of forrests, rivers, and mines. Amazing, right? I love this quote by the LA Times "Maisel's work over the past two decades has argued for an expanded definition of beauty, one that bypasses glamour to encompass the damaged, the transmuted, the decomposed."

A Wedding + A Birthday + A Very Happy Weekend!

Friday, March 4, 2011

Sorry I've been a little MIA lately. Saturday is Caleb and Jess' wedding and I've been working hard to get everything ready. Here's a picture from last night. I was messing around with one of the props that we'll be using- antlers! I'm super excited and can't wait to share how it turns out with you. Saturday is also Andrew's birthday and on Sunday we leave for a little birthday get away. It will be quiet around here for the next several days but I'll be back in the swing of things by the middle of next week. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

(If you're someone who leaves annoying animal rights comments- please refrain from doing so. I love animals and I do not condone the use of wearing fur or hunting as sport. My friend found these antlers while on a walk- when he happened upon a buck who had died naturally. Thanks- I appreciate it.)

On My Mind

I tend to daydream a lot about where I'll live next. Most often it's Paris, sometimes it's Amsterdam and sometimes it's back home in the States. This is not because I'm unhappy here, by the way. I love it here but I also love the idea of living in different countries for a few months at a time. These pictures of Geninne's life are making a strong case for Mexico...

I had never heard of Nerd Boyfriend before this morning when I saw it in Miss Moss' link list. Boy am I glad I clicked. Here are two of my favorite nerd boyfriends. And how exciting that Colin Firth won the Oscar for the Kings Speech! He deserved it- such a great movie.
